When you ask God for help, He’ll deliver, he works thru others. One of those deliveries came from my daughter. Knowing that I’m nearing the end of my writing, she gave me the book, “The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published.” Just what I needed for my next step! I jumped in headfirst, gung-ho, itching for my path to success. By page 4 I got hit with a dose of reality.
At page 4 I got to the part where New York Times bestselling author Seth Godin said, “Please understand that book publishing is an organized hobby, not a business. The return on equity and return on time for authors and for publishers is horrendous. If you’re doing it for the money, you’re going to be disappointed.” Ok, thank God, I’m not doing it for the money.
I got past the first hurdle, fortunately as I mentioned in my DAY 2 post, I lowered the bar on my expectations. Then I got to the part that talked about my need for social networking. I’m seeing that I need to be a media maven. You’ve got to be kidding me! What do I know about SOCIAL NETWORKING! Zip, zilch, nada, less than nothing. My reaction was @#$%*&!!!. Christian translation = oh fudge.
I’m an optimist, I generally see the glass half full, my glass was evaporating before my eyes. It was time to return to the faith I started with. Understanding that I’d need someone to tackle social networking, right on cue, someone found me. At first, I was highly suspicious.
Have you ever discussed something random like what you want for your next car? The next thing you know you’re receiving ads on your (spying) smartphone for cars. That happened to me after I began my writing. My action adventure was filled with words sure to trigger the CIA, MSS, and others watching for such terms, China in particular, they’re the evil villain.
Suddenly, I began receiving Linkedin connection requests from attractive young Asian women interested in what I do. In my paranoid mind they were all Chinese MSS agents tasked with meeting me, after which I’d die of unknown causes. When an attractive young media consultant from the Philippines reached out to me, I thought, wow, they’re changing their tactics. They switched countries and found out what I need, plus her bio mentioned involvement with a church. That was a clever cover, very crafty.
Fast forward 2 months later, eating my words and burying my paranoia. Clarissa turned out to be very legit and a Godsend. My glass is now overflowing. I now have a growing media presence and a website. She has lifted me from obscurity and placed us on a path to success. Like I said, when you ask God for help, He delivers.
