Benevolent AI or Mankind’s destruction, we have a vote
Two years ago I began researching artificial intelligence for a fictional book centered on AI. In the book’s following foreword I raised a question that is fundamental to the future of AI and all of humanity.
“In under 2 days the program would launch, starting a chain reaction that would create and execute the most unimaginable, almost infinitely complex plan to change the world. The problem is the plan that was underway was not what its creators had programmed. The critical failure that would set the program on its own path was the designer’s failure to factor in a key variable. How would an autonomous, soon to be self aware entity, with access to all the recorded knowledge of history, science, and human experience, how would it deal with God?”
My research into AI Ethics indicated there’s a populist approach to the creation of AI guidelines incorporating consensus ethics, the core of which is human centric. Within the vast market of ideas on this subject I found one glaring omission, the existing ethical guidelines found in the world’s largest religion – Christianity. What seemed a logical starting point that could be applied to AI is seemingly bypassed in favor of human engineering.
The danger of humans directing AI with Godlike control is already being manifest. A recent headline proclaimed, “World Economic Forum Contributor Says A.I. Could Rewrite the Bible, Create ‘Correct’ Religions.” The need for Christian centered AI ethical programming is self evident. The goal of this blog is to foster and promote Christian AI Ethics as a fundamental component of all AI guidelines. Under proper control and guidance, artificial intelligence can be a powerful beneficial blessing for humanity.
This is my first posting, planning weekly posts. I welcome your feedback to help shape the direction of this critical topic. The next post will be on the Ten Commandments applied to AI.
